Dental Treatment for Adults

We have set out the most common problems and issues affecting adults below.

Relaxed dental care in a friendly environment

Nervous Patients | We understand that there are many patients who are anxious about visiting the dentist. To minimise anxiety, we are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have and will always explain the treatment about to be undertaken in simple language. Sedation can also be offered as a practical solution and is used for all types of procedures. You will not be unconscious but will feel completely relaxed with little or no memory of the treatment you received after the effects of sedation have worn off.

Oral and Mouth Cancer | Through regular check-ups, we are able to detect early signs of oral and mouth cancer in patients. An oral cancer examination is painless and quick taking only a few minutes during which we will check your face, neck, lips, and entire mouth.

If you suffer any of the following symptoms for more than two weeks, then arrange an appointment with us:

  • A sore, irritation, lump or thick patch in your mouth, lip, or throat
  • Numbness in your tongue or other areas of your mouth
  • A white or red patch in your mouth
  • Difficulty moving your jaw or tongue
  • A feeling that something is caught in your throat
  • Difficulty chewing or swallowing
  • Swelling of your jaw that causes dentures to fit poorly or become uncomfortable
  • Pain in one ear without hearing loss

To reduce your risk of mouth cancer you should stop smoking, cut down on your alcohol intake and eat a healthy diet with at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

Cosmetic Dentistry | We have a number of experts in cosmetic dentistry who are able to use routine dental procedures to reshape your teeth, close gaps and contour gums. These procedures are usually less intrusive and effective than opting for plastic surgery.

We can also whiten your teeth using the revolutionary 'Britesmile' technology which is guaranteed to enhance your smile!

Nutrition and Diet | Following a healthy diet is essential to maintaining your oral health. You should try and limit sugary or starchy foods and fizzy drinks as these support the formation of plaque which can destroy your tooth enamel. Try and eat a well-balanced diet, and for snacks, choose nutritious foods such as raw vegetables, fruit and cheese.

Bad Breath | The main causes of bad breath are:

  • not brushing your teeth properly - use a fluoride toothpaste and a toothbrush with a small head -( more information on how to brush your teeth)
  • smoking
  • strong smelling drink or food (e.g. garlic)

Sucking on a mint or chewing gum can make your bad breath worse as many mints are full of sugar. To combat bad breath during the day, either try brushing your teeth or chew some sugar-free gum to stimulate the saliva in your mouth which can fight the bacteria.

Smoking | Smoking is bad news for your teeth but you probably knew that already. Smoking does the following to your mouth

  • Causes bad breath
  • Stains teeth
  • Increases your risk of developing gum disease
  • Increases your risk of developing oral cancer

Tooth Decay |Tooth decay is the disease known as caries or cavities. Unlike other diseases, caries is not life threatening and is highly preventable. It affects most people to some degree during their lifetime.

Tooth decay occurs when your teeth are frequently exposed to foods containing carbohydrates (starches and sugars) such as sweets, ice cream, milk, fizzy drinks, cakes, and even fruits, vegetables and juices. Natural bacteria live in your mouth and form plaque. The plaque interacts with deposits left on your teeth from sugary and starchy foods to produce acids. These acids damage tooth enamel over time by dissolving the mineral structure of teeth, resulting in tooth decay and weakening the teeth.
